Save My Heart // Madisyn Whajne

Speaking on the track Madisyn explains, “My heart was searching for answers when I wrote this song. I had spent so many years convincing myself I was okay when I was really denying

myself something I wanted so badly, and I think that is relatable. There is a sad love story being told in between the lines and by writing and pouring my heart out I uncovered some truths... that the love I was seeking outside of myself was really the love I needed to find within myself.

The song is about letting go and filling yourself up again. Being vulnerable can be such a

beautiful thing and so much can be learned if we are open. I learned to be true to myself and pursue the happiness we are all entitled to.”

RECORD RELEASE

mw-cover-small.jpg

Save Our Hearts is available now!

Her dazzling power-pop debut disc Save Our Hearts boosts anthems like “Summer Love,” “Sweet Talk,” and “When Morning Comes”—which chime like “Crash”-era Primitives over a Modern English, circa “Melt With You” backbeat."   -Paste Magazine

"With indie pop vibes and a mildly alternative edge that would win her a comfortable place among Canada’s best music talent, Whajne’s music is upbeat, fun and infectious. Making great music as a form of resilience, her music is grounding while also offering the listener genuine pleasure. This is pristine pop music." -The Big Takeover

"Brash and boisterous, loaded with punk swagger, oozing pop contagion and strutting towards the listener with defiantly confident strides, it is the antithesis of all of those squeaky clean, over-produced, dance routine, chart fodder acts we have been subjected to of late. And despite playing the pop game on her own terms, not following the pack, not staying in the usual chart comfort zones, when it comes to mainstream success Madisyn Whajne is likely to be the exception which proves the rule." -The Swindonian

"Whajne has not left us hanging for the past few months in anticipation of this album for nothing – this long-play is loaded to the gills with indie-rock alt-pop goodness, with the First Nations songstress making her mark among such artists as The Primitives, Alvvays, Best Coast and Fazerdaze. Pretty much every song on this album could have been pitched as a standalone single – all killer, no filler as they say. " -Amplify Music Mag

"Madisyn Whajne recorded her debut album, Save Our Hearts, with Montreal super-producer Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire, Wolf Parade). The result is a warm dream pop album that channels the beach-ready sounds of 2010 with chiming guitar arpeggios and sweet melodies that waft in like a summer breeze." -Exclaim

"Catchy guitar riff and driven drum line, as her silky, bubbly vocals take the lead" -Indie 88

"Whajne walks a delicate tightrope between indie rock charm and punk bravado on the album, balancing hope and despair in equal measure as gritty guitars and muscular percussion mix with dreamy production and intoxicating hooks"

LATEST SINGLE

"Pop and rock are often at their best when the two genres are allowed to bleed into each other. Take rock’s drive and urgency and leave behind its cliched testosterone-fuelled baggage, add pop’s fun and infectiousness whilst swerving its more style over substance traps, mix thoroughly, serve hot and voila!

It is in such crossover territory that you find Madisyn Whajne and her latest groovesome single, One Shot. Less trashy than Transmission Vamp, tougher than The Darling Buds and perhaps on par with The Primitives, One Shot is the perfect blend of street sass and dance floor finesse. And although there are plenty of references to be found in that 80’s new-pop, new-wave, indie melting pot, One Shot is nothing if not the sound of today.

Brash and boisterous, loaded with punk swagger, oozing pop contagion and strutting towards the listener with defiantly confident strides, it is the antithesis of all of those squeaky clean, over-produced, dance routine, chart fodder acts we have been subjected to of late. And despite playing the pop game on her own terms, not following the pack, not staying in the usual chart comfort zones, when it comes to mainstream success Madisyn Whajne is likely to be the exception which proves the rule."

Sweet Talk // Madisyn Whajne

"’Sweet Talk’ was the first song I wrote for this record. It started as a sad love song, but after bringing it to the band it took on a new meaning. Not one where I sat with my sadness and longing, but instead where I took some power back; to remind myself that I can still stand tall in the face of adversity and loss. Whether we are left heart broken or not...our hearts keep beating," says Madisyn Whajne.

"This video was shot over two nights with my good friends Laura Keightley, David Gruer and Bobby Bulat. The original concepts for all my videos changed due to the pandemic, so I had to keep an open mind and be willing to go with the flow. Laura and David are both really talented Art Directors and they turned an average living room and bedroom into two really fun sets. Laura directed this one and I am so happy with how it turned out. We were shooting test shots on a Friday night and ended up using them for most of the video! I have had to really push myself out of my comfort zones and let me tell you, playing guitar on a bed outfitted with oversized cushions was no easy task... but we had fun doing it and I think it shows."

'Sweet Talk' is out now, available across online stores such as
Apple Music and streaming platforms like Spotify. As of December 11, the full 'Save Our Hearts' album will be released and can be ordered directly from the artist via Bandcamp.

Summer Love // Madisyn Whajne

A breezy, washed out uptempo track, “Summer Love” is laced with melancholy and regret, a warm, nostalgic meditation on the ache of waiting for a love that that never comes. “I think it’s important to remind yourself how strong you are, to remember that you can get hurt and still keep standing on your own two feet,” Madisyn says. “Even when you lose someone you love, you can still carry on and bring a piece of them with you.”
